We've heard it over and over again from reliable sources such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the American Dietetic Association: Evidence indicates that a diet high in fruits and vegetables may help prevent cancer, heart disease, premature aging and the list goes on. But are we listening? I'd like to say the same thing one more time, but in a somewhat more radical way: a diet lacking in phytochemicals contributes to premature death. And this is true regardless of whether a person was conceived with perfectly fit genes or genetic defects, or programmed as a fetus to be more or less susceptible to disease. I never endorse anyone or anything. Opinions expressed in what I send out, may not be shared by me. Everything is for informational purposes only.

People who "advertise" through this newsletter have never been checked out by me. This includes professionals and even people who are interested in babysitting, etc.

Please take the time to thoroughly check out anyone and everyone that will be working with or caring for your child. We are all sadly aware, through news stories and word of mouth, of people who pray upon special needs children because of their extra vulnerability.

Thank you,

  • AIT in San Diego -- July 18 to 27

  • Dear Valerie,
Please share with your readers the following announcement, thank you.

Berard Auditory Integration Training will be conducted July 18 through 27, 2008 in San Diego in the OT, Etc/Excel Speech/PT in motion center in Kearny Mesa.

We are aware of how difficult it is for families to undertake all of the expenses of therapies for their son/daughter. AIT for You has been providing scholarships to families throughout the US over the past 10 years.

We are excited to announce that AIT for You is offering 2 partial scholarships of $300 to $400 each to families who qualify (your annual household income must meet certain guidelines). In order to save an additional $100, early registration is recommended (before June 6th, the fee for AIT is $1500, thereafter, $1600).

To receive an application for the July 2008 Berard AIT session and to apply for one of the two scholarships, please contact us at terries@execpc.com

  • Parent needs help with wandering son
  • Hello,I have a 11 year old autistic son who stays at a residential foster home 5 days a week and comes home on the weekends. The problem is he is making a dangerous habit of leaving the home[awol] at anytime of the night 12 am 3 am 4amand has been found by the Police(thank God) many miles for the home several times. He does this occasionally at our home too. AT all times of the day or night[ in what ever he,s wearing usully his underwear or PJ,s only].However lately he has been making congous efforts to leave ,[even thougth precations and certain alarms ect. have been added to the homes].believing he will be eventually located and returned and all will be OK.He has very limited speech, and is very hyperactive, and friendly. and as with autistic children, very inocent.Question:what alternatives' are there? are there homes with 24 hour supervision or at least fence's he cant climb. also note eventually we would like to get him back home ....Note he is on a Moodstab. med.
    Thank you

Juice Plus+ is the simple, convenient, and inexpensive way to add more nutrition from fruits and vegetables to your diet, every day.

Tony and I have been taking Juice Plus+ daily for almost 5 years and we feel fabulous, and are more healthy. I have Fibromyalgia Syndrome (an inflammation of the nervous system that causes painful muscle spasms and chronic fatigue), and Juice Plus+ reduced my pain level by 90% and doubled my energy level. (Results may vary.)

Juice Plus+ is whole food nutrition and will not interfere with any biomedical treatment that you may be doing with your child, but will actually enhance it.

If you would like more info about Juice Plus+, please email me.

If you would like to order Juice Plus+, click here.

More and more people realize that "an ounce of prevention" really is worth more than "a pound of cure."

  • Florida Governor Signs Autism Bill into Law
  • Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed historic legislation Tuesday, guaranteeing insurance coverage for autism therapy for very young children.

The therapy is deigned to mainstream children with the disorder and has been a topic talked about quite frequently by former Miami Dolphin quarterback Dan Marino-- whose son also has autism. For more than a decade -- Marino has been fighting to help other kids-- saying they deserve the same therapy he was able to afford for his son.

  • Aid for California's disabled in peril
  • Funds to hire personal and domestic assistance could be cut under governor's revised budget.

Salvador Chavez is a matchmaker. He helps people with disabilities find in-home attendants to help with bathing, dressing, shopping, cooking, cleaning and other personal and household chores. He screens providers to make sure they respect the dignity of the disabled and reminds customers that workers have rights too.

But many of his clients, along with 84,000 low-income elderly and disabled people across the state, could lose some or all of those services under the revised state budget released Wednesday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

  • Research Tool Can Detect Autism At 9 Months of Age
  • The ability to detect autism in children as young as nine months of age is on the horizon, according to researchers at McMaster University.

The Early Autism Study, led by Mel Rutherford, associate professor of psychology in the Faculty of Science, has been using eye tracker technology that measures eye direction while the babies look at faces, eyes, and bouncing balls on a computer screen.
