  • Looking for an ABA therapist
  • I am in need of someone who has minimum 2 years of experience in dealing with Autistic children and doing ABA therapy. Collecting data is not a requirement.

    My name is Aida, and I have a son, Marko 14 yrs. old, Marko is non verbal and is also ASD. He needs an ABA therapist who would be able to come to the house in Rancho Bernardo and do therapy 2 1/2 to 3 hrs 4-5 times per week.

    Marko is currently receiving 15 hours of ABA funded by the school but I would like to add on to that.

    He is very lovable and most of the time compliant. We are looking for someone who will be an enhancement his current program. The hours that we need are M-F 1:00 - 3:00pm and /or 5:30pm - 8:00pm.   • ATPF: May 14: Q2 Quarterly Mentoring Event
  • ATPF's second quarter mentoring event takes place Wednesday, May 14, from 6-8 PM, at the JCC La Jolla, 4126 Executive Drive, La Jolla, CA. The mentor program pairs families new to the autism diagnosis with mentors to provide guidance and access to community resources. The evening includes dinner and social time, and each new family will receive a comprehensive guide to Autism Spectrum Disorders. As a special bonus, at this event Fran Pritchard will be serving us Mona Vie Mimosas and Mona Vie Mai Tais, traditional recipes with a Brazilian flair, at the Mona Vie Bar!

    May 22: Gold Diggers "Hats Off to San Diego" Luncheon

    For the third year in a row, ATPF will enter a hat in the Gold Diggers' annual "Hats Off to San Diego" Luncheon, "A Celebration of Music," on May 22nd at The Prado in Balboa Park. The hat will be designed by teenage autistic artist Joel Anderson and modeled by Dawn Holman, Ph. D., clinical director of Autism Spectrum Consultants. Attendees and others may write in to vote for our hat, with the opportunity to win monetary prizes for ATPF. Please help support the cause by attending the Luncheon or writing in to vote for the our hat. Invitations to the luncheon and absentee ballots are available through the Autism Tree Project.   • Job Opening: Peer Mentor
  • The Center for Emerging Leadership has a current part-time opening for a Peer Mentor. This job entails working in integrated community employment settings with individuals from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. The peer mentor is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Center for Emerging Leadership. Peer mentors field telephone calls and E-mail messages, and provide mentoring and advocacy services for youth and emerging leaders, ages 13-30. Peer mentors will attend San Diego People First meetings on a monthly basis.

  • Seeking Campers Who Are Ready to Hit the Trail For an Adventure!

    PALS: The San Diego Social Skills Camp is pleased to announce our summer camp program for school- aged children with ASD and other language deficits. This 5-week camp was created by Kara Dodds and Associates, Inc. and The Music Therapy Center, Inc. Children will have the opportunity to enhance their language by engaging in cooperative play, crafts, storytelling, drama, music and cooking activities. Using integrated speech and music therapy techniques, campers will practice turn-taking, role- play social situation, conversational skills and best of all, make new friends. Following each weekly camp day, staff will provide on-site consultation and generalization activities for parents.

    Session 1 Dates: June 18-July 17
    Session 2 Dates: July 23-August 21
    Times: Wednesdays from 9:00-10:15 am, Thursdays 9:00-10:15 am, Thursdays 3:00- 4:15 pm
    Location: Encinitas
    Cost: 5-week camp session is $350.00

  • St. Madeleine Sophie's 31st Annual "Haute with Heart"













  • St. Madeleine Sophie's Center, 31st Annual Fashion Show, "Haute with Heart" will be held at the San Diego Sheraton Harbor Island on Saturday, August 23, 2008 (10am - 2pm). This is a fun, festive and heartwarming fashion show/luncheon. All proceeds will support the programs of St. Madeleine's on-site Aquatic Center. The Aquatic Program is just one of many day training programs that SMSC offers its 265 adults with developmental disabilities, to fulfill their individual potential.

    Tickets for this event are $60 regular seating and $100 VIP seating. Tables of 10 are $600 for regular seating and $1,000 for VIP seating.

    "Haute for Heart" will heat up the runway with haute couture that only Leonard Simpson of Fashion Forward Productions could present. This year's honorary chair is Mrs. Phyllis Parrish and our "mistress of ceremonies" is none other than Carol LeBeau, 10NEWS Anchor.

    There will also be a huge Raffle Prize Drawing and Silent and Live Auctions!!!

  • CAMP STEPS 2008!
  • Xcite Steps is thrilled to introduce CAMP STEPS for the upcoming summer of 2008. Camp Steps is a fun beach & community activity camp available to kids teens and adults who experience disabilities. Our camp is every week of the summer, M-F starting June 16th and concluding on August 29th.

    Registration DEADLINE is May 17th. Each week of our camp is filling up quickly, so please get your applications in before the deadline.

    Camp Steps works hard to build and maintain an environment in which campers feel like they can be themselves, open up, make friends and most importantly have fun! We have selected fun sports, recreational activities and games coupled with exciting community outings to help inspire and develop friendships. Our qualified counselors have many years of mentoring, teaching and counseling experience coaching individuals who experience disabilities. The abilities of each camper are promoted to ensure they have the best summer camp experience possible!

    KIDS Camp
    · Ages 7 - 12 with exceptions
    · Camp hours: 12:30pm - 3:30pm
    · Optional morning pre-camp: 10am - 12:30

    TEEN and Adult Camp
    · Ages 13 + up
    · Camp hours: 1pm - 4:00pm
    · Optional morning pre-camp: 10:30am - 1:00

    Camp Structure:
    Each week starts with a beach day where campers can get to know our mentors. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are our field trip days and Friday we end the week with a beach party.

    Field Trips for Kids and Teens+ include:
    Water Parks, Boomers, Bowling, K1 Speedracing, Game Universe, Nickel City, Dave & Busters, Paintballing, Frisbee Golf @ Balboa Park, Birch Aquarium, Sailing, Karate Group Class

    Beach days include:
    Water Sports Instruction: Surfing, Boogie-boarding and Body-surfing Water safety training from our Lifeguard friends Music and sand therapy group activities and games Sport and fitness recreational therapy activities and games Guest appearances and our Xpression sessions.

    Camp Location:
    Fletcher Cove is in Solana Beach. Drop off spots located throughout San Diego.

  • To be able to use this Internet process, a claimant must: 1) have applied for benefits; 2) have received a "Notice of Disapproved Claim", a "Notice of Reconsideration" or "Notice of Federal Reviewing Official Decision; 3) disagree with the disability decision; and 4) live in the United States or one of its territories. For more information, visit the SSA's website. The SSA also has an online screening tool to assist with determining potential eligibility for any of the programs it administers.   • Medicare is an insurance program that serves people over 65 regardless of their income, younger people with disabilities and dialysis patients. Medicaid is a medical assistance program.
