I never endorse anyone or anything. Opinions expressed in what I send out, may not be shared by me. Everything is for informational purposes only.
People who "advertise" through this newsletter have never been checked out by me. This includes professionals and even people who are interested in babysitting, etc.
Please take the time to throughly check out anyone and everyone that will be working with or caring for your child. We are all sadly aware, through news stories and word of mouth, of people who pray upon special needs children because of their extra vulnerability.
Thank you,

Teacher's Resource Book
|
|
Hi everyone! As we near the close of the year and begin preparations for next year, just wanted to remind everyone of this great resource:
TEACHER'S RESOURCE GUIDE (2nd Ed/Pub: Hawthorne Educational Services) $40.00
This book includes 219 of the most common learning and behavior problems with extended lists of interventions and strategies. While I am sure you can find this via many sources, this webpage will allow access to sample pages (.pdf) for you to look at to get an idea of whether it is right for you. Great for teachers, parents and advocates.

(For old fogies like me, it is like the PRIM manual ...)
Just thinking of you.

Shining Light On The Brain's Activity
|
|
The microscopic structure of the human brain is almost incomprehensibly complicated, composed of trillions of interconnections between tens of billions of neurons. Understanding this circuitry, the aim of modern neuroscience, is a laudable goal for fundamental as well as neurological health care reasons.

Human Brain Appears 'Hard-wired' For Hierarchy
|
|
Human imaging studies have for the first time identified brain circuitry associated with social status, according to researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) of the National Institutes of Health. They found that different brain areas are activated when a person moves up or down in a pecking order -- or simply views perceived social superiors or inferiors. Circuitry activated by important events responded to a potential change in hierarchical status as much as it did to winning money.

AYSO VIP Soccer Registration for Fall 2008
|
|
Special Needs Sports Families,
I wanted to drop everyone a reminder that the AYSO Fall VIP 2008 Soccer season will be here before you know it! Registration is currently ongoing through June 1. You can find information at http://www.sanmarcosayso.org/VIP.htm.
The cool thing this year is that the registration fees for VIP have dropped to $20!
The note I received with the registration packet says: "ATTENTION VIP PARENTS!! Unfortunately, our computer system is not set up to process $20 registration payments for VIP. You may pre-register on-line at http://www.sanmarcosayso.org and send in your check made out to AYSO along with 3 signed copies of the registration form. Mail them to: AYSO VIP's, PO Box 333, San Marcos, CA 92079"
We also want to congratulate the new VIP Director, Pam Bancells. We know she will do a great job! She can be reached directly at Vipdirector@sanmarcosayso.org or 760 727-2557.
You can also direct questions to me, if you prefer, and I will work to get them answered.
I will be coaching again this year (if Pam will let me), but not sure whether that will be for the younger or middle-age-group kids.
Here's to a great 2008 Soccer season!
Coach Rick
